Schwerin-based network operator WEMACOM picks KEYMILE’s MileGate 2510 multi-service access platform to deliver optical fibre connections and ultra-fast broadband access to residential and corporate customers. Because of the MileGate product family’s high level of flexibility, it’s very easy to expand to providing a diverse range of communications services and functionalities.
As part of an extensive project in the Parchim region and the north west of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, WEMACOM recently connected the first corporate customer to its optical fibre network. In 2018, WEMACOM has, to date, been able to purchase 18 operator licences in the area. The first project phase started in the summer of 2018. The goal is to expand FTTH, in other words, provide a continuous optical fibre connection to homes or company premises. When selecting the access systems, WEMACOM chose KEYMILE’s MileGate IP-MSAN. The network operator was already familiar with systems supplier KEYMILE from previous projects and very pleased with the solutions it came up with. The MileGate 2510’s flexible, active (Ethernet point-to-point, P2P) access technology, the top quality of the products and the proximity to the KEYMILE base in Hanover all played a key role in WEMACOM’s decision.
KEYMILE’s partner, Axians Networks & Solutions, will implement the project as the system integrator. KEYMILE and Axians have been working in the district of north-western Mecklenburg and the Parchim region, to the south east of the state capital Schwerin, and other areas for WEMACOM since the summer of 2018. Three clusters are being developed in Parchim and in north-western Mecklenburg, WEMACOM has received the concession for 14 project areas, where an extensive P2P optical fibre network to each of the subscribers is being set up. The teams have been working on the detailed planning and construction of the optical fibre infrastructure since late summer 2018. They’re planning to lay 2,000 kilometres of optical fibre cable for around 80 of the district boroughs and connect 30,000 buildings. The project is slated for completion in two years.
“Because of the many project specifications, close liaison between WEMACOM, Axians and KEYMILE is pivotal in order to ensure success of the technical and logistical side of the project,” says Chris Schumacher, head of IT at WEMACOM Telekommunikation GmbH. “MileGate is a sophisticated solution and appreciated by the market for its exceptional stability and durability. Should service and support be needed, we can rely on Axians and KEYMILE’s efficient service organisation, which is also close by.”
Tim Arlt, Axians account project manager adds: “We were delighted to receive WEMACOM’s request and that they placed their trust in us. We quickly realised that only a KEYMILE solution was good enough for this project. And we clearly made the right decision.”
Andreas Zapfel, the account manager for Axians and WEMACOM at KEYMILE adds: “With state-of-the-art and high-quality technology solutions, WEMACOM will make a significant contribution to ensuring ultra-fast broadband access in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. WEMACOM benefits from an easy-to-implement, reliable and robust solution that provides stable foundations for their business model. An experienced system integrator like Axians, which is well-versed in our products, is key to a successful project.”
As WEMACOM’s project partners, KEYMILE and Axians will be showcasing their broadband solu-tions at the 3rd Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Broadband Forum in Rostock on 8 November.
